The Future Of Storage

The Future Of Storage

It is impossible to give a prediction of the future and get it 100% right but we can always try to guess what may or may not happen and this is basically the same.

Flash Memory

Flash memory are clever but complex data storage methods. This type of storage retains data even when there is no power going to the flash memory. Flash memory is used in phones and mp3 devices as a hard drive. This could suggest that the expansion of the mobile phone market could mean an increase in the amount of Flash memory used, this can suggest that Flash memory will become one of the most used types of data storage in day to day life. Meanwhile with Flash memory you can rewrite data over and over again to a certain extent due to the limited write cycle, one day the memory device will work and the next day it will be dead, on average a Flash memory can last for around 100,000 program erase (P/E) cycles (2008). The advantages of Flash memory are that you don't have to worry about platter damage, there are no shock and vibration issues, Able to withstand a greater temperature range since the moving parts aren't subject to expansion, however this does not mean that if you place it in some extreme heat such as a fire that it will survive but it could withstand the heat a little more. Some examples of Flash memory are shown below...

Meanwhile Flash memory is being used in a combination with hard drives because of the advantages such as faster and sleeker and are considered by many types of computer users. This is also a physically smaller alternative to other storage devices with the same or similar or even larger data storage size. This may then go on to be used for things such as on demand movies and television as it becomes more advanced.
